One-Day, Gulf Shores Wreck TripsSeveral Dates Available
Please Note: We will have some sort of trip or activity for every date shown. Depending on conditions, it may not always be off shore. If conditions change, we will let you know. Visitors associate New Orleans with the murky waters of the Mississippi and Lake Ponchartrain. Yet, just a few hours to the east, divers can experience clear, warm water, tropical fish and an abundance of exciting wrecks. From March through October, Harry’s Dive Shop conducts one-day wreck diving trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama. As the accompanying pictures will attest, the water can be surprisingly clear, and the wrecks are big and covered with marine life.
These trips are a great opportunity for divers of even modest experience levels. Because of the depths (many of the wrecks are in 60 to 100 feet of water), some form of Advanced or Deep Diver training is recommended, along with Nitrox certification and use. Other than that, you don’t have to be a big-time tech diver — or even have that many dives under your belt. Normal recreational dive gear, including two tanks and a wetsuit adequate for current temperatures, is all you need to own or rent.
The weather generally cooperates with us; however, if we do have to cancel at the last minute, Vortex and Morrison Springs are just a short drive away — and you can either get a refund of your trip fee or apply it to a future outing. Be sure we have your cell phone number, so that we can contact you at the last minute, if necessary. Some of Our Favorite Wrecks
Note: The wrecks dived on any given day are dictated by prevailing conditions as well as the number of vessels already in place upon our arrival. Itinerary
Gulf Shores is roughly three hours from New Orleans (see map below). For this reason, and because of the need to meet at Down Under Dive Shop no later than 7:00 am, you will want to drive to Gulf Shores the night before and check into a local motel. Motels our dives frequently use include: You can also enter Motels into the Search nearby dialog box in the Google™ map below for a complete listing of area accommodations.
After meeting at the dive shop at 7:00, you will board the boat and depart no later than 8:00. Trip times will vary depending on conditions; however, the boat generally returns around 1:00 pm — leaving plenty of time for lunch and an unhurried drive back home. The boat takes a maximum of 20 passengers, so space is limited. Nondivers may accompany you at half price — but only if space is available. Sign Up On Line
You can begin the sign up process for any of Harry’s Dive Shop’s group trips on line. Doing so will help us collect important information we need on each traveller. Note that this is an information collection process only; you will still need to give us payment information in person or over the phone. Get started now.
