The Scuba Experience

Okay, let’s say the idea of scuba diving intrigues you — but you’re not certain you want to commit to an entire certification course. No problem. The Scuba Experience provides a highly immersive, one-afternoon (or one-morning…or evening) opportunity to sample what it is like to learn to scuba dive.

• During the Scuba Experience you’ll start by spending a little less than an hour in our classroom learning about some of the fundamental principals of physics and physiology that are critical for diver safety. You will also learn what it takes to become a certified diver and the opportunities that await after you become certified.

• Next, you will go to our indoor, heated swimming pool, where you will learn how to assemble scuba equipment, enter the water, and weight yourself properly. You will also learn some of the most basic scuba skills, such as how to recover and clear a regulator and how to clear a mask. Best of all, you’ll get to experience the unbelievable sensation of flying weightless under water.

By the time you are done, you will have an excellent understanding of what diving — and the process of becoming certified — are all about. And, if the prospect excites you (and it will), you will be ready to take the next step, which is learning to dive.

Note: In addition to the Scuba Experience, we also offer a less-immersive Try Scuba experience once a month on our Social Saturdays.

Who Can Learn? You need to be at least seven years of age and able to either answer No to all of the questions on the RSTC Medical History form, or secure a physician’s approval prior to taking part.

Where Do You Learn? All activities take place right here at Harry’s Dive Shop (get directions). We are among the few dive centers in the country with our own indoor, heated swimming pool. This 16-foot-deep pool was designed specifically for diver training. It provides unbeatable convenience and enjoyment.

When Can You Try It? The Scuba Experience is offered by appointment for groups of up to six. Afternoons work out well; however, because we have our own pool, we can really do it any time.

How Much? $100/person. You supply the items listed below; we provide everything else. If you sign up for any of our full-length diver certification courses during the Scuba Experience, you get a $50 rebate

Required Equipment: Participants will need to supply: Swim suit. Towel We provide everything else — although, if you would like to get your own quality mask, snorkel and fins, we have quite a selection to choose from.
