Chelsea Umbach Yates Pulmonary Hypertension Fun Walk/Race

Chelsea Umbach Yates

On behalf of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) and the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing Alumni Association, we invite you to be a sponsor of the 1st Annual Mudbug Fun Walk/Race, honoring the memory of Chelsea Umbach Yates, Cindy’s daughter who died of PH at age 26. The event will be held at City Park in New Orleans, on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 8:00 am till 12:00 pm. So that we can adequately prepare, you need to preregister, which you can do on line.

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a debilitating, life-threatening illness currently with no cure. It causes high blood pressure in the lungs, which produces breathlessness and ultimately threatens life itself. The PHA was formed 17 years ago, during a time when there were fewer than 200 diagnosed cases of PH in the United States and no disease-specific treatment. Estimates of the number of cases worldwide are now in the hundreds of thousands. New drugs are in medical trials. Research supported by PHA is leading to greater understanding of the illness. There is hope. Events like ours are adding to hope every day.

Forty percent of proceeds will support PHA’s efforts to provide improved patient care, expand medical research, and disseminate the latest information to the PH community. The remaining 60% of proceeds will provide further education and awareness of PH to future LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing graduates who will provide nursing care to PH in a variety of clinical settings. We are seeking sponsorships of donated goods for a silent auction, assistance in covering the routine costs of facilities rental, and event promotion. We are asking for your help to make this a success!

This is an opportunity you do not want to miss to impact a severe disease such as PH and demonstrate your institution’s commitment to PH and nursing. On behalf of the PH patients, families, caregivers, friends, and the LSU Health School of Nursing Alumni Association, I thank you for considering our request and look forward to hearing from you soon. We ask that donations be received by no later than February 27th. Please feel free to contact me at ttarta@lsuhsc.edu or 504-568-4013 if you have any questions.

In the meantime, you can visit our website at http://nursing.lsuhsc.edu/Alumni/Race.html.
